Thanks for stopping by & Welcome to my smugMug site!
I'm an ex Commercial Diver now living in Brandon, near Tampa, Florida, USA. I was originally born and raised in the beautiful country of Wales UK, in a small town called Brecon, which is located in the shadow of the Brecon Beacons.
I have an old Canon A1 35mm camera which I inherited from my Grandfather when he passed away and I used that for a little while.
In 1994 I got my first real taste of photography and film developing whilst on an underwater welding inspection course at Prodive Commercial Dive school, located in Falmouth UK.
I got my first Digital SLR camera, a Canon EOS 20D as a gift for Christmas in 2005.
In the few years of owning a digital SLR camera I have accumulated a healthy number of photos of various subjects with inspiration for my wildlife photography taken from renowned photographers such as Art Wolfe and Geoff Simpson.
With the age of digital, there is nothing more gratifying than instantly looking at the LCD on the back of the camera, knowing I've captured the shot.
The digital SLR has also given me a new found greater appreciation of the natural world that is around us in our busy everyday lives, none more so than macro photography.
With the correct camera and lens combination the ability to see small insects and other wildlife through the viewfinder still amazes me and the ability to capture in high definition, a small glimpse into their world, a snap shot in time which at most times is almost near impossible to see with the naked eye.
My Macro shots are captured using a technique called reversed macro. This is a technique where usually a 50mm lens is reversed and coupled to a telephoto zoom lens, so the front elements of the two lenses are facing each other. The telephoto lens portion of this set-up is then mounted on the camera body to still allow the camera and telephoto lens to communicate all relevant data.
The results from this technique are quite outstanding as you can see from my Macro gallery. This lens combination achieves close to 5X magnification so an insect as small as 3mm will fill 2/3rds of the image sensor, with amazing high definition detail.
